Located on 38th Street and Third Avenue, El Rio Grande is one of the most popular Mexican bar and restaurants in bustling Murray Hill. When the weather is good, happy hour is packed at Rio Grande for the fabulous Margaritas. Offered in many flavors (I suggest the strawberry or my go-to: rocks with salt) these drinks pack a lot of punch so be sure to counteract with some food.
Choose from two dining rooms, the more casual one attached to the bar, or the more formal one which is closer to 37th Street, accessible from the street or through the restaurants busy kitchen.
Start off with an order of Guacamole En Molcajete mashed avocados, tomato, lime, cilantro, jalapenos, and onion prepared to your liking at your table. Perhaps also share one of the six kinds of quesadillas as they all are tasty, or an order of nachos.
For entrees, if you like fajitas these are a good bet. Served piping hot, with generous portions of meat and vegetables, you won’t leave hungry. Or try the Burrito De Pollo with grilled chicken, vegetables, beans, Monterey jack cheese, rice, lettuce, pico de gallo and sour cream.
Both sides of the restaurant are great for couples or groups with a busy and lively crowd.
